What Does School ALERT Do?

School ALERT expedites the process of initiating a school lock-down via a school’s P.A. system…

School ALERT can prompt a school’s P.A. system to play a recorded message to notify school staff to perform a school lock-down.  Any authorized school staff member can initiate this School ALERT lock-down task.  This empowers all authorized staff members to initiate a lock-down from most anywhere on the school grounds.

This saves precious time during a lock-down because school staff members no longer have to contact appointed office personnel to initiate the lock-down.  With School ALERT, the lock-down can be initiated by the first staff member to recognize a threat.

School ALERT can initiate door lock mechanisms…

During a lock-down, School ALERT can initiate door lock mechanisms provided the school is so equipped. In most cases, School ALERT can integrate with existing door lock mechanisms.  Contact Us to find out more.

School ALERT can provide 2 way communications between Emergency Responders and school staff…

Emergency services first establish ALERT access via a guest login to the School ALERT System IDCP Control Panel or the school’s Incident Commander will hand off a device (tablet, laptop or desktop) that is already logged into the IDCP Control Panel. This allows emergency services direct access to the control interface where they have access to the following:

  • Monitor video cameras (if the school has them equipped and configured )
  • Control door locks (if the school has them equipped and configured)
  • Review the event log for the lock-down
  • Specify and log custom event details
  • View a PDF map of the school
  • Direct access to the control interface where emergency responders can initiate school staff check-ins

School staff check-in notifications include quick status buttons that can be used in high stress situations to more easily convey immediate status. These quick status buttons describe a staff members risk status such as “Safe”, “Mild Risk” and “High Risk”.

School staff check-in notifications also include the ability for a staff member to include a more detailed text based message – teachers can include student counts, their location, injuries and any specifics that they’d like to convey.

Additional features are being planned as well for future release.

School ALERT can provide live video via school video cameras…

School ALERT can display live video feeds. These can be viewed by Law Enforcement or School Administrators. Any responder can login and view the feeds via a guest login.

School ALERT can establish 2 way communication between school administration and school staff members during a high threat scenario…

School ALERT can provide 2 way communication between school staff and school administration.  Authorized school administration will have access to the School ALERT System IDCP Control Panel and will be able to do the following:

  • Monitor video cameras (if the school has them equipped and configured )
  • Control door locks (if the school has them equipped and configured)
  • Review the event log for the lock-down
  • Specify and log custom event details
  • View a PDF map of the school
  • Administer internet based guest login access to any emergency responders
  • Initiate school staff check-ins

School staff check-in notifications include quick status buttons that can be used in high stress situations to more easily convey immediate status. These quick status buttons describe a staff members risk status such as “Safe”, “Mild Risk” and “High Risk”.

School staff check-in notifications also include the ability for a staff member to include a more detailed text based message – teachers can include student counts, their location, injuries and any specifics that they’d like to convey.

School ALERT can be configured with optional buttons that allow school staff members to request specific school notification, assistance or personnel…

Nurse button:
This button will prompt the school nurse that assistance is needed.  The nurse will be able to see what teacher/room is requesting medical assistance.

Principal button:
This button prompts the principal that assistance is needed.

School Security Officer button:
This button prompts the School Security Officer that assistance is needed.

Cougar button:
In rural schools, cougars are a concern during certain times of the year.  A cougar button will alert staff members of the sighting so that students can be brought or kept in-doors until the grounds are safe.

Custom buttons can be added to meet particular school needs.  Please Contact Us to discuss your options.

School ALERT can integrate multiple schools per district…

The School ALERT system can stand alone per school or it can integrate multiple schools per district – thus allowing lock-downs and communications between configured schools.

The advantage being that schools in close proximity can be locked down by an authorized School Administrator and schools can share pertinent high threat information via the administrator’s School ALERT System IDCP Control Panel.

School Safety Plans & Policies

Does School ALERT replace my schools safety policies or is it flexible enough to comply with them?…

School ALERT System is not intended to replace individual school safety policies.  It is designed to enhance them and to be scalable in order to adhere to local school and district policies as well as local dispatch and law enforcement policies.

Can School ALERT directly notify emergency services?…

Certain communications with law enforcement may be bound to or limited by local statute and/or law enforcement and dispatch policies.  School, dispatch and law enforcement policy and law can vary per city, county and state.

Many laws currently effecting schools are being re-examined with the intent in mind to consider allowing new technologies to initiate emergency notifications to law enforcement and dispatch from technologies such as School ALERT System.

Who Can Initiate a Lock-down And How Does It Work?

Who can initiate a school lock-down via School ALERT?…

Only authorized staff with access to the downloaded app can initiate School ALERT System notifications.  Authorized staff also need to be on site to utilize the App.

Additionally, authorized school administrators can also initiate School ALERT System notifications and commands via the IDCP control panel.

Staff members utilizing the App do not have access to the administrators IDCP control panel.  Only authorized and appointed users have access to the IDCP control panel.

How is a School ALERT lock-down initiated?…

Authorized school staff (referred to as end users) have a School ALERT App that they download onto their smart phone, tablet and/or desktop PC.  Users have the option to use just one or all of them.

If a high threat scenario is encountered, staff members can initiate a school lock-down by the press of a large red Emergency button on the App.

In case of accidental initiation – there is a safeguard that asks the user to confirm the Emergency. If confirmed, then the lock-down is initiated according to the schools emergency policies.

Also note that school staff must also be on site in order to initiate the app.

Paying For School ALERT System

Is School ALERT Expensive?…

School ALERT System was created and designed to be a simpler, less invasive and more affordable alternative to a hardwired, wall button, mounted system that a new school would have built in during construction or an existing school would have retro-fitted during a remodel.

The costs associated in retro-fitting school buildings and individual classrooms with physical emergency buttons are typically very costly because it involves physically wiring and tearing into school walls and buildings.

School ALERT is scalable and does not require that a school use all of its available options.  For example, if a school does not have door lock mechanisms and has no intention of adding them, School ALERT can be configured without that feature.  Additionally, if a school later changes their minds and installs door lock mechanisms, then their School ALERT System settings can be re-configured to include the door locking functionality.

Limitations To Consider

Limitations To Consider…

All claims are limited by school peripheral hardware (or lack thereof) and its state of repair.
Certain communications with law enforcement may also be bound to or limited by local statute and/or law enforcement and dispatch policies.
School and Law Enforcement policy and law can vary per city, county and state.
This list is by no means exhaustive nor does it necessarily apply to all users.
